One of our favorite European destinations for many years has been Slovenia, the most modern of the Balkan nations located just south of Austria. We’re back in the Adriatic resort of Portoroz and Pirano for a week before heading down the coast to visit a new country, Croatia. [photopress:CRW_9877.jpg,thumb,pp_image]

Click more to checkout the video! Nick, now that you’re 60, we still hope you’ll have the energy to keep up on the slopes at Deer Valley next winter!

Spring is the time for our annual trek to the San Rafael Swell and Moab desert. This year Jeeped our way through the swell and tried a few short hikes to test Carole’s re-habbing feet, then headed to the Moab Photography Symposium for the weekend.
Congratulations to our latest class of new Geocachers! We had a great class at our home for friends with Ev and Joanie, Cliff and Sara, and Robert and Max all enjoying our fun hobby!
I knew it was serious when I found myself reading Ski Magazine cover to cover. I haven’t done that in years! I’ve never counted ski days before, but this year I nearly hit 70 days on skis! It was my best season ever as I found my love for skiing again. I finally hung up the Rossignols for the season on April 20 after a final day at Alta.
It’s everyone’s favorite time of the year — Girl Scout cookie time! Yes, time to stock the pantry with thin mints. Little known fact, when you open one of the plastic tubes of thin mints, it’s important to eat them all at one time so they don’t dry up! My favorite Girl Scouts, Morgan and Brooke, were all set to deliver mine on my birthday last week, but I was out with the flu. So I was excited tonight when the doorbell rang and my 19 boxes arrived!
Our son-in-law Ben always knows the cool outdoor things to do! A year ago Ben and his brothers built the Cadillac of all ice shacks, anchoring it on the ice outside The Waterfront on Grindstone Lake near Hayward. But last weekend was time to move across the highway to Lake Couderay for the annual Walleyes for Northwestern Wisconsin ice fishing contest. It was a great day of family fun! And the proceeds went to benefit the walleye fishery in northwestern Wisconsin.
It’s been quite a few years since I’ve been to Sweden or Scandinavia. I had forgotten how beautiful the light is here in the Nordic latitudes. It’s like sunrise and sunset all day long! I’m spending a long weekend in Ã…re, Sweden for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships — a fabulous resort community along a lake with a towering mountain with a 3,500-foot vertical drop!
