Alien Sunflower Invades Back Yard

It’s sunflower time in Park City. The wild sunflowers have been blooming around Silver Creek for almost a month. And an early planting has yielded a garden of sunflowers in the back yard. But lying admist the beautiful yellow and green is an alien object. Yes, Carole’s latest creation! Click below to see more.

World’s Greatest Birthday Cake

We’ve known our former neighbor Liza since she was about six. Well, she’s graduated from college and turned 22 this month. She was always a great baker (including lots of summers and holiday breaks working in the Deer Valley bakery). And her father Richard is an incredible chef. We all like to out-do each other with the cover recipes from Bon Appetit! Liza really outdid herself for this birthday, baking up what was truly the world’s greatest birthday cake. In fact, we all agreed, it was even better looking than the June 2006 cover of Bon Appetit. Checkout the orange layer cake with buttercream frosting and seasonal berries.

Tom’s Fotos on Flickr

Since shooting sports in high school and an initial career as a news photographer in the 70’s, I’ve always had a love for photography. And I always have the camera ready in my travels. But now I have a place to share my photography at Flickr. While the library is just beginning, it’s already worth a stop. Click here or mouseover the thumbnails in the sidebar on the right to get a sneak peek.

Building the Little Red Schoolhouse

School is just around the corner, and that means the opening of daughter Meghan’s Little Red Schoolhouse Montessori school in Hayward, WI. Just a few months ago Carole and the whole family pitched in to help Meghan and Ben refurbish and paint the new schoolhouse. Son Chris put together this awesome slide show. Just click the MORE link and take a look (video screen takes a few seconds to load)! And watch for more when school opens after Labor Day.

Madeline’s First Trip

A brave 10-year-old Madeline made her first trip by herself to visit us in early August. And as with all of our guests, she was kept very busy with a combination of crafts, bike riding and travel, including Geocaching outings and a trip to Salt Lake City’s Heritage Park. Checkout Madeline’s photo gallery![photopress:madeline_bike01.jpg,full,alignright]

Hollyhock Heaven

Wild flowers continue to bloom in Tom and Carole’s back yard, and there’s a newly planted bed in front. But the big news of the summer is that the hollyhocks have finally blossomed! After three years of tiny spurts each year, this time they’re in full bloom.

Fall Pumpkins at Do-Dads

Sad to say, but summer is winding down and it’s time to think ahead to fall. That means it’s time for knitted pumpkins at Do-Dads for You. Carole has really outdone herself this year. Checkout the latest group shot at! And they’re now available at Rocky Mountain Baskets in Park City’s Redstone shopping center. Click here to checkout the full line.

Simple Summer Salmon

Some of our best simple summer meals have been seafood oriented. Here’s an outstanding meal we picked up entirely (almost) at the Wednesday Park City Farmer’s Market at The Canyons. Total cost for two (with wine) was just $25.
